So you've gone online and purchased your first plunge coffee pot from Green Dragon Roasters. You've chosen the tabletop French press to start with. Starting things off with tried and true basics is always good, and a French press truly makes for an exceptional cup of coffee. You will also need a superior coffee to fill your press with. A great choice is one of the small batch, specialty coffees from Green Dragon Coffee. One especially important factor in how coffee tastes is the freshness of the roast. Green Dragon's small batch roastings assure you the freshest coffee available. With a wide variety of choices, you can have your pick of single origin blends, Fair Trade or organic coffees. Now, your coffee has arrived, and you're ready to brew your first pot. Here are some coffee brewing basics for making that first pot fabulous:

  • First you want to wash your pot in warm soapy water. Rinse well and allow pot to dry. After your first pot, continue to keep your equipment clean, always washing the pot and removing any oil residual with a paper towel.
  • Second, you want to use a grinder to grind your whole bean coffee. (Whole bean is best, assuring that your coffee is at its freshest. And remember: NEVER reuse your grounds.) You want to make sure that you grind your coffee to the grind appropriate for your pot. For a French press, you want a grind that is less coarse than that used for a drip coffee pot, but not extremely fine either.
  • Thirdly, you want to use fresh filtered or bottled water, unless you live somewhere where the tap water is of good quality. Never reuse the water from your previous brewing, and make sure you achieve a temperature between 185 to 200 degrees. After the water comes to a boil, allowed it to sit off the burner for moment, then pour it over your coffee beans. Push down the plunger and let your coffee sit for 5 minutes.
  • Last, but certainly not least, pour your coffee into a mug, doctor it with the fixings of your choice, then, sit back and enjoy a truly exemplary cup of coffee.
